Ride Noho's Foliage Fling
October 10 through 12, 2015

great folliage
Crisp Air and Vibrant Colors

A NEW ENGLAND AUTUMN is something to treasure. Sure it spells the end of summer but it brings with it some spectacular gifts: bright blue skies, chilly nights, the first fires, amazing foliage -- and of course, great road riding. You're fit, you're relaxed and all of your summer riding is about to pay off. Now is the time to have some fun and sample some of the best cycling that western Massachusetts has to offer.

Join Ride Noho on our Foliage Fling, which is open to A, B and C level cyclists (see 'ride descriptions' below). This three day cycling adventure offers something for everyone and includes an excursion to Mikes Maze in nearby Sunderland. Each day, we will head in a different direction on our quest to find the best of the best foliage.

Attendees will arrive in Northampton on Friday, October 9, 2015, and depart on the afternoon of Monday, October 12, 2015.

Friday, October 9

Aldo and Elaine Tiboni, Ride Noho proprietors, will greet you when you arrive Friday evening. Check in to your hotel and take a walk around the charming city of Northampton located along the banks of the scenic Connecticut River in western Massachusetts. Relax and have dinner at one of the 50+ great restaurants that are just a short walk from your hotel.

Saturday, October 10 (All rides head towards Shelburne Falls)

On Saturday we will start the day with breakfast at the famous Sylvester's Restaurant, located in what was the home of Sylvester Graham, remembered mainly for the cracker that bears his name. Fueled and ready to ride, we will meet at the Hotel Northampton, the start of the ride. You will have a choice of an A, B or C level ride, all of which feature some of our favorite backcountry roads. On this day we all ride towards Shelburne Falls as we seek out the best of the fall foliage. After the ride, shower and lunch at Fitzwilly’s, a local favorite, we will transport the group to Mikes (famous) Maze for a fun exploration amongst the corn stalks. Come nightfall, the quaint town of Northampton invites you to spend a late afternoon of museums, shopping, and relaxing (naptime?). And of course, enjoy the restaurant of your choice.

Sunday, October 11 (All rides head toward Leverett)

AAfter another hearty breakfast at Sylvester’s you will again have the option of riding with the A, B or C group. On this day, we will travel the back roads towards Amherst and Leverett in our quest to view the foliage.

Monday, October 12 (All rides head toward the Book Mill in Montague)

Following a hearty breakfast at Sylvester's we will continue our foliage tour, this day heading toward Montague, the home of the Book Mill. With its tagline “Books you don’t need in a place you can’t find”, this local stop is a great place to refuel before heading back to our home destination, Northampton. Lunch at Fitzwilly's will be a great place to end this memorable fall adventure. Departure is after lunch today.

The Foliage Fling Includes:

  • Three rides
  • Three nights accommodations
  • Three Breakfasts
  • Three Lunches
  • Friendly guides
  • Snacks
  • Admission to Mike's Maze

Ride Descriptions

"A" rides are for stronger riders who can easily handle 18-20 mph on the flats, and who enjoy rides with multiple climbs. These may total as much as 4000 vertical feet per ride, so 39/23 gearing is recommended.

"B" rides are for riders who can maintain 15-17 mph on the flats and enjoy multiple climbs totaling up to 3000 vertical feet per ride, so 39/26 or "triple" gearing is recommended. Although climbs may be included, the pace for these will be moderate.

"C" Rides are designed for novice cyclists who have done some limited riding, or for experienced cyclists who have been away from the sport. They will roll at an average of 13 to 15 miles per hour on the flats, and will have very little climbing. They will range from 25 to 35 miles in length, and will include a few strategically placed stops for quick refreshment.
